We were right in the middle of attempt
#2. The first attempt was more crude,
mostly because materials weren't readily available. The second attempt was much better, because
Ben had made a scaled drawing, and we had replaced fence slats (better
material).
But, the engine never seemed to work,
and so the go kart never seemed to work
Somehow Ben got it in his mind that he
could just BUY a go kart that was already built! The online classifieds became
his best friend for the next few weeks.
Ben got a geography lesson, as he learned what cities were just too
far away to buy a go kart.
When just the right price and city
aligned, Ben begged me to go with him (Tim was at church meetings).
Ben had allied with a friend who also thought
the idea of a working go kart was a cool.
And so it was. Ben was sold the minute he saw the
beauty. I was hesitant, as this was
completely out of my realm. But, Ben was
convinced, and we brought this go kart beauty home with us.
Word travelled around the enighborhood
quickly. Every day after school, the
crowd grew bigger, and bigger, with kids hoping for a ride in the passenger's
side (Ben had already determined that only the select few were allowed to drive
it).
This went on until the go kart broke. Now we are interspersed with days of riding
the go kart, and days of fixing the go kart.
And, a garage filled with tools and
STUFF littering the ground.
