And so, for those anecdotes about Alice...
1. It's hard turning five-the poor child thinks that the day after their birthday, it is time to go to kindergarten. And then, they are told that you have to get shots, and then you can go to school. But, wait. Then there is summer. Poor thing. How anti-climatic. Alice has been very patient through it all-birthday, shots, and now summer. Actually, she is VERY excited to have siblings home for 3 months. They are truly her favorite friends. In the meantime, she has dutifully memorized a phone number, address, shapes, letters, numbers, and the list goes on. She is bound and determined to be ready for school. She has watched siblings go before her, and she knows the routine like the back of her hand.
2. I looked (longed may be too strong of a word) for that year when the first child would go to school-and then, the rest just drop like flies. You anticipate that first one going, and then before you know it, all of them are in school, and you have not a single little tag-a-long at home. Sad, but true. And yet, I see how much Alice longs to be at the school, and you can't help but want her to be at school like the rest of her siblings. She has done more play dates this year than most others did at a Pre-K age. She is very good about being the hostess at our house. Sometimes she wonders why the hostess ALWAYS "has to give in" to their friends, but is quite good about it. I will miss my many conversations, lunches, etc., with her this fall.
3. Today we pulled out "summer clothes" (clothes that aren't as nice as school clothes, but are too nice to turn into rags or send to Deseret Industries). We the overalls that have been worn by Mom, Sarah, Anna, and now Alice. She LOVED the pocket in front and stored all of her little toys in them (10 to be exact) today as she sported them over her other clothes. These overalls are thanks to Mom, and her great seamstress abilities-Alice loves them most because she knows that we all stuffed 10 toys in that front pocket when we wore them as well...

What a cutie! I'd miss having her by my side all day, but Kindergarten awaits! Enjoy your summer with all those sweet kids.
