Chirpie, our new pet...

The kids rescued a little bird last week after they realized it couldn't fly and was in danger. For the next few days, they took such good care of it. First, they made a little brick home for it. The bird seemed hungry, and so the dug lots and lots of worms for it. It was fun to watch Chirpie eat the worms. After a day of getting comfortable with the bird, they would put a glove on and hold her. We would put her in the tree at night to protect her. Ben even made a pretend "Mama" bird and would have that bird feed Chirpie so that she would eat.

After a rainy night, the kids woke up to a bird that had died. They were all so sad. Especially Nathan. They had invested a lot of time in this bird, and had fully expected it to live to recovery.

They still talk about Chirpie this week. She was a great pet to have....
